Italian citizenship by descent (jure sanguinis) is based on ancestry, not place of birth. If you have an Italian ancestor and the line of citizenship was never broken, you may already qualify.
You may be eligible if:
You have an Italian-born ancestor (often a grandparent or great-grandparent)
That ancestor was still an Italian citizen when their child was born
No one in your direct line renounced Italian citizenship before the next generation was born
There is no limit on how many generations you can go back. However, eligibility depends on specific details—dates, locations, naturalization records, and document accuracy all matter.
Small issues like name variations, missing records, or unclear naturalization dates can affect a case, but many problems are fixable if identified early. We combine a thoughtful, human-centered approach with clear communication and reliable results. It’s not just what we do—it’s how we do it that sets us apart.

To determine whether you may qualify for Italian citizenship by descent, only a small amount of basic family information is needed at the start. This initial review is about understanding your lineage—not collecting sensitive personal data.
What you’ll be asked to provide:
Your full name
Your place of birth (city, state/province, country)
The Italian-born ancestor you are claiming through
Approximate birth years and places for each person in the direct line
Approximate immigration and naturalization details, if known
Exact dates and documents are not required upfront. Estimates are fine for an initial assessment.
What you should not provide:
Social Security numbers
Passport numbers or passport photos
Government-issued ID images
Financial information
None of this is needed to evaluate eligibility, and you should never be asked to submit it during an initial inquiry.

My name is Dante Deiana, a second-generation Italian born in Boston, MA.
I went into the Italian citizenship process thinking it would be a straightforward paperwork project. It wasn’t.
Very quickly, I found myself trying to track down decades-old records, figure out which documents actually mattered, and make sense of rules that seemed to change depending on where I looked. What I assumed would be a checklist turned into something overwhelming and, at times, discouraging.
What made the difference was having a real plan: knowing what to collect first, how to sequence everything, what red flags to watch for, and when it made sense to stop guessing and bring in professionals who do this every day.
This site exists because, once I started figuring it out, friends, family, and even strangers kept asking the same question: “Where do I even start?”
The goal here isn’t to replace legal advice or pretend that every case is the same. It’s to offer a practical first step—sharing what I learned, helping you understand whether your case is viable, and pointing you in the right direction if it is. When a case looks like a good fit and you decide to move forward, I can also make an introduction to Italian Citizenship Assistance (ICA), a full-service team that can actually execute the process.
